Every year, the City of Melbourne presents an exciting line-up of free New Year’s Eve celebrations at entertainment precincts across the city, with live entertainment and two massive fireworks displays.

Here’s what’s happening in the city this New Year’s Eve:

Family Festival

Families will enjoy the friendly and festive atmosphere at Yarra Park surrounding the MCG.

A big concert is planned (our line-up is still a secret but watch this space), plus roving performers, free activities and the much-loved 9.15pm fireworks show.

Bring a blanket and a picnic from 6pm for a relaxed and entertaining New Year’s Eve with all the family.
Free central city entertainment

Here’s an easy answer to the question: ‘What are you doing for New Year’s?’
Live bands. Roving performers and DJs, plus a fireworks display that will blaze a trail through the heart of the city all the way to Docklands.

Come early for a meal and a drink, then make your way to one of the city’s special free entertainment sites as the clock ticks over to 2011.

Midnight rooftop fireworks

Melbourne’s midnight fireworks display is a sight to behold, as bursts of colour and light weave a spectacular path across city building rooftops creating a brilliant, pyrotechnic rainbow.
