With crowds of more than 1.5 million people, Sydney has arguably the second largest New Year celebrations worldwide.
New Year revellers benefit from the harbour city's warm summer weather and natural amphitheatre. Over 80,000 fireworks are traditionally set off from the Sydney Harbour Bridge and six other firing points covering 6km along Sydney Harbour.
The event can be seen from a 16km radius around Sydney and attracts an average of 300,000 international tourists each year.
The Harbour of Lights Parade adds to the attraction as cruise boats covered in fairy lights cruise the centre of the harbour all night. These vessels have the prime position for the evening.
9pm Family Fireworks
The 9pm Family Fireworks is a magical show that lights up Sydney Harbour. It is a beautifully choreographed display with fireworks firing from barges on Sydney Harbour and plenty of special pyrotechnic effects.
A soundtrack will be broadcast on our radio partners channel and our TV broadcast partner will air the 9pm Family Fireworks for everyone wanting to watch from home.
Harbour of Light Parade The Sydney New Year's Eve team has assessed the vessel creative designs and we are delighted to announce 55 vessels from commercial operators and not-for-profit organisations will participate in this year's Harbour of Light Parade on 31 December. Fireworks
The Sydney New Year’s Eve fireworks displays are among the largest in the world, with firing positions extending 6km up the Harbour and using in excess of 100,000 individual effects.
The 9pm Family Fireworks are an eight minute display with fireworks from four barges, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and seven CBD building rooftops. The Midnight Fireworks are a twelve minute display with fireworks from seven barges, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and seven CBD building rooftops. Both fireworks displays are accompanied by a specially compiled soundtrack broadcast on radio 104.1 2DayFM.
Vantage Points
The world-famous fireworks displays can be seen all the way from Gladesville Bridge to the Heads of Sydney Harbour, with fireworks barges located between Point Piper in the east and Cockatoo Island in the west.
The map provides a reference for all the key vantage points and outlines facilities, services and restrictions at each site.
When deciding where to go, keep in mind that sites closest to the Sydney Harbour Bridge always attract large crowds. If you plan to travel to these sites, arrive early as access is limited and sites will be closed once they are full. You might like to consider some of the vantage points outside the CBD, which also offer great views and can be more accessible and comfortable.
